Welcome
Terrapin Creek Farm is an adventure in sustainable hobby farming and homesteading. We are located on 8 acres in Sophia, North Carolina. We are currently raising four breeds of chickens; Welsummers, Spangled Russian Orloffs, and Mille Fleur Belgian D'Uccles, Silver and B/B/S Ameraucanas. We are beginning to raise MiniRex rabbits. We also have a habit of rescuing wayward dogs, wandering cats, and just about anything else that finds its way here.
We strive to acquire the best genetics as the foundation for our breeding programs. We believe that quality is far more important than quantity. We are members of the Welsummer Club of North America and the Russian Orloff Preservation Society. Although we do not currently show our birds, we breed to the recognized standard for the breeds we work with. We have chosen to work with breeds that we enjoy and that provide a reasonably rewarding challenge.
In addition to raising poultry and rabbits, we have also been raising mealworms and experimenting with growing crops for animal (and people) food. This spring we will begin planting non-gmo, open pollinated grain and fodder crops to incorporate into our feeding practice. We believe this will impact our livestock as well as our own health in a positive sustainable way.
